U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his displeasure over India Russian Oil Imports, saying he is “very disappointed” with New Delhi’s energy choices. Speaking to reporters, Trump said the U.S. had imposed a 50% tariff on Indian imports in response to the move.
“I’ve been very disappointed that India would be buying so much oil from Russia. And I let them know that. We put a very big tariff on India—50 per cent,” Trump stated.
Despite the criticism, Trump highlighted his personal bond with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said:
“I get along very well with Modi, as you know. He’s great. He was here a couple of months ago… I’ll always be friends with Modi. He’s a great prime minister.”
The comments came just hours after Trump posted on social media that the U.S. had “lost” both India and Russia to China, a remark he softened later in the day. He stressed that while policy differences exist, the U.S.–India relationship remains “special” and built on mutual respect.
