Sri Lankan court on Tuesday granted bail to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was arrested last week for allegedly misusing government money during his time in office.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura allowed his release on bail with three guarantors, each worth 5 million Sri Lankan rupees.
The 76-year-old leader, who was president from 2022 to 2024, is accused of spending 16.6 million rupees of public funds to travel to England in September 2023 to attend a convocation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithree.
