CCRAS Expands Its Flagship Research Initiative
The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) has launched SPARK 4.0, the fourth edition of its flagship Studentship Programme for Ayurveda Research Ken. This initiative aims to nurture young Ayurvedic scholars by encouraging them to explore scientific research at the undergraduate level.
Under SPARK 4.0, 300 BAMS students from NCISM-recognised colleges across India will receive a studentship of ₹50,000 each to carry out short-term research projects. The programme is designed to promote a culture of scientific inquiry among Ayurveda students and strengthen the foundation for evidence-based practices in the traditional medicine system.
About CCRAS – The Apex Body for Ayurvedic Research
The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) is the apex organization under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. It is responsible for promoting, coordinating, and conducting scientific research in Ayurveda.
The council focuses on basic, clinical, pharmacological, and literary research, aiming to validate classical Ayurvedic concepts through modern scientific methods. Programmes like SPARK are part of CCRAS’s larger vision to integrate traditional wisdom with contemporary research practices.
How SPARK 4.0 Works
SPARK 4.0 provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to gain first-hand experience in research design, data analysis, and project execution.
Key highlights include:
Eligibility for undergraduate BAMS students from NCISM-recognised institutions.
A two-month research project under faculty mentorship.
Financial support of ₹50,000 per student (₹25,000 per month).
Certification by CCRAS upon successful completion and report submission.
Through this initiative, CCRAS aims to make research a regular part of Ayurvedic education and inspire students to contribute to future innovations.
Encouraging Youth Participation in Ayurveda
This initiative reflects CCRAS’s ongoing commitment to bridge traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern scientific validation. By engaging young students early in their academic journey, SPARK 4.0 hopes to:
Encourage curiosity-driven research and innovation.
Create a future-ready pool of Ayurveda researchers.
Strengthen institutional capacity for Ayurvedic studies and publications.
In previous editions of SPARK, 591 students from 289 institutions across 20 states participated, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for Ayurvedic research among India’s youth.
Application Details and Next Steps
Applications for SPARK 4.0 open on October 15, 2025, and will close on November 15, 2025.
Interested students must submit a brief project proposal with institutional and faculty approval. Selected candidates will carry out their studies over a two-month period and submit their findings for evaluation.
Institutions are encouraged to support students by providing mentorship and research infrastructure to ensure the success of their projects.
Building the Future of Ayurvedic Research
By investing in the next generation of Ayurvedic scholars, CCRAS is strengthening the foundation of evidence-based traditional medicine in India. SPARK 4.0 is not only a studentship programme but also a movement to modernize Ayurveda education, enhance its credibility, and inspire young researchers to contribute to the global recognition of India’s traditional systems of healing.
