Ayurveda Day 2025, observed on 23 September, marks the 10th National Ayurveda Day. This year, the AYUSH Ministry has rolled out a series of initiatives to promote India’s ancient wellness tradition under the theme “Ayurveda for People & Planet.” The day emphasizes holistic health, preventive care, and sustainability, celebrating Ayurveda’s relevance in modern life.
Ayurveda’s philosophy emphasizes both prevention and cure, captured in the timeless shloka
Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam, Aturasya Vikara Prashamanam
(For the healthy, the maintenance of health; for the sick, the cure of disease)
This shloka perfectly reflects the essence of Ayurveda Day 2025 — preserving wellness while fostering holistic care.
Why 23 September Was Chosen
Historically, Ayurveda Day was observed on Dhanteras, a lunar calendar date. In 2025, the Government of India officially fixed 23 September as the annual date. This coincides with the autumnal equinox, when day and night are nearly equal, symbolizing balance — a key principle in Ayurveda.
Infrastructure and Institutional Initiatives
At the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, the AYUSH Ministry inaugurated several new facilities, including:
Integrative Oncology Unit for combining Ayurvedic and conventional cancer care
Blood Storage Unit to enhance hospital services
Hospital Linen & Central Sterile Supply Units for improved patient hygiene and care
These infrastructure developments showcase the Ministry’s commitment to integrating Ayurveda into mainstream healthcare with modern facilities.
Awards and Recognition
The National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards 2025 were presented to outstanding individuals and institutions in research, education, policy-making, and Ayurveda promotion. These awards honor contributions that strengthen the scientific credibility and global outreach of traditional medicine.
Public Engagement Activities
Across the country, the AYUSH Ministry is organizing:
- Yoga and wellness sessions
- Medicinal plant distributions
- Health camps and awareness workshops
These initiatives aim to connect citizens with Ayurvedic practices and preventive healthcare, making the wisdom of Ayurveda accessible to all.
International Outreach and Collaborations
Ayurveda Day 2025 also focuses on global engagement, with the Ministry signing MoUs and collaborating with international institutions. These efforts aim to promote integrative healthcare, research partnerships, and Ayurveda education worldwide, further strengthening India’s leadership in traditional medicine.
