Ayurveda, India’s ancient and natural system of healing has established itself worldwide as an innovative and unique system of mind and soul medicine. Recognizing the importance of Ayurveda globally, Govt. of India has decided to celebrate 28th October as National Ayurveda Day. Being celebrated as the birthday of Lord Dhanvantri just two days before Diwali on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras. Lord Dhanvantri is known as the Hindu God of medicine and doctor of all Gods. Also believed to be the founder of Ayurveda.
Dr. Baldeep Kour told that According to the Hindu mythology Lord Dhanvantri being a form of Lord Vishnu which arose from the Sagar Manthan, the churning of cosmic ocean and gifted protective aspect of the divinity of healing for all. The churning of the ocean represents the spiritual endeavors to achieve self-realization through concentration of mind, withdrawal of senses, control of all desires, austerities, and asceticism. Celebrated in a unique way every twelve years known as the “Kumbh Mela.”As the churning of the ocean continued Lord Dhanvantri appeared garlanded with flowers, holding a nectar pot in his hand, and offered the world a healthy life and rejuvenated body and mind.Stated in The Bhagavatam- One who remembers the name of Dhanvantri gets cure from all diseases. Ayurveda, not only teach us about the energies of food, spices, and herbs. It also provides details for the proper use of senses and how to control the mind.
Dr Baldeep Kour also said that it is an honor for us that Lord Dhanvantri has opened to us the power of healing within us. Seeking his blessings for a healthy life are more important than buying gold and silver that most of us do on the occasion of Dhanteras.
